ITINERARY IDEA
“Metric Century” - 100k bike trip
Do you want to ride a century in kilometers? This straight-forward, out and back route starts at the Waukee Trailhead and travels to Herndon and back.
BREAK THIS RIDE UP INTO MANAGEABLE CHUNKS:
-
Waukee to Minburn – 12.6 miles
-
The Nineteen Thirteen in Minburn has a restroom out back and nice, cold water. If you’re ready an adult beverage, the Nineteen Thirteen has a nice selection to choose from.
-
-
Minburn to Perry – 7.1 miles
-
Perry to Dawson – 6.2 miles
-
Dawson has a great restroom and water facilities in a fully-restored train depot. On warm days, take a seat in the breezeway to help cool off. Note: these facilities are only open seasonally, so in the winter months the depot may not be open. There is a soda machine just to the north of the station across the road if you need an extra boost.
-
-
Dawson to Jamaica – 4.6 miles
-
Jamaica is a nice stop if you'd like a beverage or need some food. Otherwise, you can keep trucking to Herndon!
-
-
Dawson to Herndon – 6.7 miles (skipping Jamaica)
-
Think of Herndon as a quick turn around, because the only facility there is a port-a-potty. On a hot, sunny days, be aware that shade is limited. There is a bike repair stand in case you need to do any service. Otherwise, plan to return to Jamaica for beverages or Dawson to top off water bottles after saying hello to the cows just North of the trail.
